Tandale Nature Barn Wedding in Brighton, Michigan

August 20, 2026

I don’t photograph a lot of barn weddings, but Rachel and Kyle’s Tandale Nature Barn wedding was absolutely an exception! Their day had such a beautiful mix of editorial portraits, candid moments, and a mix of digital and film imagery. But what really stayed with me was how intentionally they made space for Kyle’s parents, who have both passed.

Rachel gifted him a necklace with his dad’s signature, they took portraits with his dad’s vintage car, and the speeches from his best man and sister honored his mom’s legacy in such a meaningful way. Between those emotional moments and a reception complete with a live sax player, the entire day felt full of so much love and genuinely fun.

Details, Getting Ready, & First Looks

Rachel and Kyle got ready separately in the on-site bridal and groom’s suites before the first looks began. Rachel wore an off-the-shoulder gown with a long veil, and Kyle wore a classic black tuxedo. She first surprised her bridesmaids, then shared a sweet first look with her dad before meeting Kyle outside.

After their first look, Rachel gave Kyle one of the most meaningful gifts. A necklace engraved with his late father’s signature. It was such an emotional way to make his dad part of the day, and there truly wasn’t a dry eye around.

Bride, Groom, & Wedding Party Portraits

One of the many things I loved about this Tandale Nature Barn wedding was how much open space we had for portraits. We used the lawn, wooded areas, and the exterior of the modern barn for Rachel and Kyle’s portraits, with those huge black-framed windows making such a beautiful backdrop. It also gave us plenty of room for wedding party photos that felt relaxed and candid, while still creating a few more editorial style images throughout the afternoon.

Outdoor Open Air Cathedral Tandale Nature Barn Wedding Ceremony

Rachel and Kyle’s Tandale Nature Barn wedding continued with an outdoor ceremony at the venue’s Open Air Cathedral. This ceremony site is tucked into the woods beneath a canopy of trees. The white cathedral-style arch and floral arrangements stood out beautifully against all of the greenery, which created such a pretty setting.

I also brought out my drone for a few overhead photos, which really showed off the full ceremony space and just how surrounded by nature it feels. Rachel had specifically mentioned wanting drone photos of the ceremony, so I made sure those were a priority.

Cocktail Hour & Tandale Nature Barn Wedding Reception

After the ceremony, guests headed straight into an outdoor cocktail hour, complete with a mobile bar, before moving inside for the reception. The barn was filled with candlelight, white florals, deep green linens, and warm string lights overhead. One detail Rachel especially loved was the barn’s huge windows. We made sure to capture a few reception photos with them in the background. Rachel and Kyle made their entrance, listened to speeches, and celebrated with a champagne tower and cake cutting before we slipped outside for golden hour portraits.

For those portraits, we brought out Kyle’s late father’s vintage car, which made the photos feel even more meaningful to their Tandale Nature Barn wedding. Back inside, they moved into their formal dances before the dance floor completely opened up. Between the live wedding painter, packed dance floor, and all of the candid moments happening throughout the night, it was such a fun ending to an already beautiful day!
